Mazda MX-5 Gets a Modern Stereo Upgrade 🚗🔊
A nice little upgrade on this Mazda MX-5, bringing the interior firmly into the modern day!
The customer came to us having just purchased the vehicle and wanted to give the stereo system a bit of a refresh. The car was still fitted with an older Sony head unit from the 2000s, which was looking very dated compared with the rest of the car.
During our initial inspection, we found a few issues with the existing setup. The front-left door speaker wasn’t working, the steering wheel controls weren’t functioning, and the original stereo was in need of a serious upgrade.
After discussing the options, we replaced the old Sony unit with a Kenwood DMX7722DABS, giving the MX-5 a huge step up in both technology and appearance.
The new Kenwood unit brings a whole host of modern features, including:
● DAB digital radio
● Wireless Apple CarPlay
● Wireless Android Auto
● Bluetooth hands-free calling
● Bluetooth audio streaming
● Modern touchscreen controls
● Access to a much more up-to-date and user-friendly interface
We also wanted to make sure the installation worked seamlessly with the vehicle rather than simply fitting the new stereo and calling it a day.
The steering wheel controls were successfully integrated, allowing the customer to continue controlling key stereo functions without having to reach across to the touchscreen.
We also installed a new DAB aerial to ensure the new digital radio system could perform as it should.
With the front-left speaker also found to be faulty, we replaced the door speakers with another good-quality used set, bringing the audio system back to full working order.
The end result is a much more modern and enjoyable setup, while still keeping the MX-5 looking clean and factory-friendly. The difference the new head unit has made to the interior is huge — it really does give the car a bit of a facelift! 👌
It’s always great seeing an older vehicle get a few carefully chosen upgrades that make such a big difference to everyday driving.
