This one is a perfect example of why the right protection inside a working van can make such a huge difference.
When this van arrived at our workshop, the load area floor was showing serious signs of corrosion. Over time, cleaning chemicals had been getting underneath and soaking into the existing plywood flooring. What may have started as small spills and everyday wear had gradually allowed moisture and chemicals to become trapped against the metal floor.
Once we removed the existing plywood, the extent of the damage became immediately apparent. The floor had suffered significant corrosion in multiple areas, so simply replacing the plywood wasn't going to solve the problem.
We needed to properly prepare and protect the underlying metal before rebuilding the load area.
🔧 Step 1 — Removing the damaged flooring
The first stage was to completely remove the existing plywood flooring, exposing the full extent of the corrosion underneath.
This gave us the opportunity to properly inspect the floor and make sure the affected areas were dealt with rather than simply being covered back up.
🧹 Step 2 — Preparing the metal
The floor was then thoroughly sanded, removing loose corrosion and preparing the surface for treatment.
All of the affected rusty areas were treated with a rust converter, helping to stabilise the remaining corrosion and provide a suitable surface for the next stages of the process.
Any areas where bare metal had become exposed were then treated with etch primer.
Proper preparation is absolutely critical when applying a protective coating. There’s little point putting a high-quality coating over a poorly prepared surface, so we took the time to make sure the floor was properly prepared before moving on.
🛡️ Step 3 — Heavy-duty protection
Once the floor had been prepared and primed, we applied an impressive four gallons of Speedliner Europe LTD protective polymer coating.
The Speedliner coating creates a tough, durable and protective barrier across the load floor, helping protect the underlying metal from the harsh environment associated with this particular vehicle.
Importantly, the coating is chemical resistant, making it particularly well suited to a van that regularly carries and handles cleaning products.
It also creates a surface that is much easier to clean and maintain, helping prevent the same problems from occurring again and making the load area far more practical for everyday use.
🔲 Step 4 — Plastic side panels
To complete the transformation, we fitted grey plastic side panels throughout the load area.
This was another important upgrade for this particular application.
Traditional plywood can absorb liquids when spills occur, meaning cleaning chemicals can soak into the material and potentially remain trapped against the vehicle.
The plastic panels are non-porous, so they don't absorb spilled liquids in the same way. This makes them much easier to wipe down and clean, while reducing the risk of chemicals becoming trapped within the lining.
For a vehicle regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals, it's a much more suitable solution.
🚐 The finished result
What started as a van with a heavily corroded load floor has now been completely transformed.
The damaged flooring has been removed, the corrosion properly treated, the exposed metal protected and the entire floor coated with a tough, chemical-resistant polymer system.
Combined with the new non-porous plastic side panels, the load area is now more durable, easier to clean, easier to maintain and far better suited to the demands of the business.
Most importantly, we haven't simply covered the problem up — we've addressed the underlying issue and created a much more appropriate environment for the vehicle going forward.

This van has been given a whole new lease of life, and it's now better equipped to deal with the demanding environment it works in every day.
